Our therapy team base their treatment approach on a thorough assessment procedure. This assessment will be conducted on your first visit and will include a detailed history of your injuries and abilities, as well as a physical evaluation of your injury as it relates to the demands of your sport, work and life activities.

What is Athletic Therapy?

In the past, athletic therapy has been restricted to the sports setting: now athletic therapy is used to rehabilitate injuries sustained during work, daily activity, recreation, and sport.

An accredited Athletic Therapy program is offered at seven universities across Canada.  After completion of this program, candidates must successfully pass a national written and practical exam in order to treat as a Certified Athletic Therapist in Canada.

A certified Athletic Therapist is considered a “musculoskeletal specialist” and is devoted to the health care of the physically active individual in the prevention, immediate care and assessment of musculoskeletal injuries. An Athletic Therapist uses assessment, postural evaluation, manual therapy, therapeutic modalities, and specific stretching and strengthening programs to rehabilitate musculoskeletal injuries.

More information can be found at the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association and the Athletic Therapists Association of BC

If you would like to request Athletic Therapy to be added to your benefits plan, you can submit a letter to your company’s HR department and to your insurance company.  For more direction on how to do this,  please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
